Should employers pay their employees more to cover the cost of living?

I think the obvious answer would be yes since we're all slaves to the system, but of course companies don't want to lose money so they aren't going to give their employees a reasonable raise even when the cost of living continues to increase. I think it's fair to give out bigger raises to people willing to put more effort into their work, but at the same time depending on the job the people putting more effort will eventually get tired and start slacking off once they realize they're just a slave.

I think it is reasonable for wages to keep up with inflation. Although we all know they don't.

Man my job hasn't given me a raise in over a year. They keep pushing talks further down. 🫩

Well, of course we should make enough money to cover the cost of living. That's the whole point of working......so you can pay your bills. My job doesn't pay me a "living wage".......I wouldn't be able to make it on my own. I'd have to go back and live with my parents if it weren't for my spouse. They make enough money to live on their own but I don't. Luckily, they make enough money that they can just about pay the bills themselves so my paycheck pretty much goes into the bank and stays there (or at least most of it does, unless something unexpected comes up that we hadn't planned for).

While small companies might not be able to pay their employees enough to cover cost of living, big companies can certainly do it but sadly I don't see that happening. Some companies certainly pay well to their managerial level staff but juniors are poorly paid. There is a huge pay gap

I can't remember when employers have ever paid their workers well. They never think about it, infact it hardly or doesn't come up during any management meetings.
